Teamwork 15_Foundations Points Definition

Choice of the part of the site that is going to host the new info and resting point.
The northern edge with the walnut and the apple tree is the only place giving shadow all the day long.
Placement of the foundations grid (modules 120x120 cm) on that edge, relating it to the two trees.
At the beginning of the workshop week  little wells will be dug on the foundations points, then  plastic tubes (diameter 20 cm) will be placed to contain the soil. During the design session the participants will decide which foundations point to use according to their design choices.

First visit to the hydroelectric plant with Andrea Fulcheri, architect of the Consorzio Irriguo, the society managing the water caption and the irrigation canals system.

Building Site: Centrale Idroelettrica Fernando Olivero

The staff of the Parco Fluviale Gesso e Stura in agreement with the Municipality of Vignolo decided to propose a new site for atelier mobile#4_Stura.
The place is an elongated field extending from the northern side of the Centrale Idroelettrica Fernando Olivero, an hydroelectrical plant dating from the 1920s.
The site is bordered by a canal, a pair of trees (a walnut and an apple tree) and a wide open field looking southeastwards to the Stura river, the Bisalta peaks and the Alps.
It gives the chanche to host panels describing the canal system and the Centrale activities related to the area past and present configurations.

Teamwork 14_The building box

The building box was finally defined, its elements are now under cut in the sawmill to be ready for theatelier mobile week.
The building box contains a series elements to build junctions, frames and horizontal plans, rails to fill the frames and foundation poles.

1_junctions
marine plywood
280 plates 24x36 cm, thickness 15 mm, with two inner cuts
to build
70 junctions using four plates each

2_frames
chestnut wood
80 planks 9x93 cm, thickness 2 cm
80 planks 9x97 cm, thickness 2 cm
to build
40 frames type A using 4 planks, final dimension 106x102 cm

40 planks 9x97 cm, thickness 2 cm
40 planks 9x197 cm, thickness 2 cm
to build
20 frames type B made using 4 planks, final dimension 106x206 cm

3_rails
larch wood
150 rails 3x3 cm, length 400 cm

4_foundation posts
wood treated in autoclave
24 posts 8x8 cm, length 130 cm

The system is based on an orthogonal grid of 120x120 cm. It allows various configurations, among which it will be designed and detailed our small architecture.
